"Are You Okay? : Navigating Mental Health in Today's World"

As a destination services provider, we can meet people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our consultants often become a lifeline for relocating employees and their families, offering support and connection during a transitional time. However, settling into a new environment can be challenging even with our best efforts.

Feedback from our consultants highlights that many face loneliness, emotional struggles, and a longing for home. This affects not only single individuals but also families and children. Cultural differences can intensify these feelings because of the lack of familiarity and can intensify missing home and loved ones.

It's not just relocated individuals feeling the weight of stress and anxiety. According to the WHO (March 2023):

  • Depression is a common mental disorder affecting 5% of adults globally.

  • More women are impacted by depression than men.

Closer to home, AIHW reports that in Australia:

  • 1 in 5 Australians between 16-85 have experienced mental illness in the past year.

  • 17% have faced anxiety disorders.

  • 1 in 7 children and adolescents have experienced a mental illness.

These sobering statistics remind us of the importance of normalising mental health discussions.

RUOK's mission is to inspire meaningful connections and support for those struggling. One of EWR's core values is also being Meaningfully Connected—ensuring every relationship, from colleagues to customers, is treated with care and respect.

Connection is key. People don't always openly share their struggles, so it's essential we regularly check in with friends, family, and colleagues. By fostering open conversations, we build trust and ensure those around us feel supported when life gets tough.
